Build your future on a foundation of field-first thinking

We construct total pipeline confidence

At Charps, pipeline construction is about more than moving dirt. It’s about assembling the right team, tailoring logistics to the job and solving problems before they hit the field. Our approach starts with boots-on-the-ground planning and ends with a crew that’s been with the project from day one. We use tightly coordinated composite crews, not massive siloed spreads, which means fewer handoffs, better continuity and more pride in the final product.

Where others tap out, we dig in

Tough terrain, legacy assets, narrow right-of-way? Bring it on. We build the kind of pipelines that keep energy moving — and our crews are in their happy place when the job’s anything but easy.

We specialize in the tricky stuff — tight tie-ins, legacy lines, awkward geometry. Where others see roadblocks, our crew sees opportunity. With the industry’s sharpest welders and field teams who thrive on finding simple solutions to the most complex problems, we keep systems safe, efficient and fully compliant.

Our approach

We bring full-scope ownership to every tie-in. With composite crews and in-house QA/QC oversight, Charps control quality from dig to backfill. Leveraging tech like Truck Tools, we navigate client-specific specs in seconds, save time and reduce errors.

Our capabilities

  • Complex tie-ins to existing infrastructure
  • Lateral branch line installations
  • In-house welding & coatings expertise
  • Live spec management via AI tool
  • Internal quality program with ITP compliance

Our experience

  • Thousands of tie-ins completed coast to coast
  • In-house welding solutions
  • Expertise working across spec-heavy operators

Smaller lines. Bigger expectations. Our crews deliver tight, sub-50-mile transmission projects with minimal disruption and maximum efficiency. While larger contractors lean on massive spreads and overextended schedules, we hit the ground with targeted teams, deep planning and composite crews that can do it all — from ROW prep to final tie-in.

Our approach

Every project starts with boots on the ground. Our PMs or superintendents drive the alignment to assess access, equipment needs, hazards and community impact. That upfront effort pays off in the field — even in rain-soaked or remote conditions.

Our capabilities

  • End-to-end project planning and logistics
  • Composite crews for fast, lean mobilization
  • Internal trucking + equipment sourcing
  • Right-of-way prep, stringing, welding & backfill
  • Live reporting  & daily field reports

Our experience

  • Years specializing in short transmission lines
  • Projects completed across rural and suburban zones
  • Near-zero missed substantial completion deadlines

Replacing aging infrastructure without missing a beat. Our pickup and relay crews are masters of multitasking — laying new pipe, extracting old lines and executing live bypasses that keep product moving. For operators, it’s business as usual. For us, it’s precise orchestration under pressure.

Our approach

We overlap construction phases to maximize uptime. That means new pipe installation happens in parallel with excavation and prep work, and every tie-in is timed to minimize or eliminate downtime.

Our capabilities

  • Live bypass planning and execution
  • Full-service pipe removal and replacement
  • Strategic crew scheduling for overlapping phases
  • In-house training
  • Weather-adapted scheduling
  • Union-trained, cohesive field teams

Our experience

  • Field-tested superintendents with 25+ years’ experience
  • Ability to execute tie-ins with zero shutdowns
  • High-mobility crews and equipment for responsive change

RNG lines come with tight spaces, tangled utilities, and zero margin for error — and that’s where we thrive. Whether it’s running digesters from dairy farms or weaving through crowded right-of-ways, we know how to build safely in complex environments.

Our approach

We plan for every factor — traffic flow, road ROW, landowner sensitivities and tighter weld specs. Where traditional jobs offer flexibility, RNG construction demands precision and fast pivoting. That’s where our field-tested planning and union-trained crews shine.

Our capabilities

  • Utility conflict mitigation and traffic control
  • Close-quarters installation in roadside ROWs
  • Live traffic management
  • Local sourcing + field adaptability

Our experience

  • RNG installs in CA, MI, MN, and beyond
  • Experience in both farm-based and municipal RNG projects
  • Proven ability to adapt to landowner and regulatory constraints

While our bread and butter lies in transmission and tie-ins, Charps also offers speciality pipeline construction solutions tailored to the moment — from utility crossovers to environmental mitigation work. If it involves pipe, we’ve probably done it.

Our capabilities

  • Environmental and wetland mitigation
  • Utility crossover and protection
  • Valve installations and station interconnects
  • Facility tie-ins and upgrades
  • Remote/off-road access solutions
  • Custom logistical planning

Our experience

  • Projects in remote and environmentally sensitive areas
  • Multistate footprint with strong vendor relationships
  • Proven field agility and low rework rates
  • High client satisfaction in tight-scope builds

We plan better, build faster and finish stronger

From walkdowns to welds, we show up prepared, proactive and fully aligned with your goals. We build trust through transparency, field-proven strategies and crews who treat your assets like their own.

Here's how

Have questions? We’ve got answers.

We plan from the ground up — literally. Our PMs and superintendents walk the route before we build it. They flag tricky terrain, wet zones, access constraints, and seasonal variables so we can build a plan that’s grounded in reality, not just drawn on a map.

Absolutely. Our welders and crews specialize in complex tie-ins — especially where geometry is tight, angles are odd, or legacy infrastructure doesn’t match modern specs. We thrive in the weird, not just the straight and flat.

Our crews know how to multitask and overlap phases to keep momentum strong — and when the schedule’s tight, we don’t panic. We plan.

Yes — on many projects, especially RNG and short laterals, we self-perform directional boring and other trenchless work in-house. That allows us to stay efficient, cut down on subcontractor delays, and maintain full control of the quality.

We start with risk assessments and pre-tie-in planning, then coordinate bypass options that minimize or eliminate downtime. On one recent project, we kept gas flowing the entire time by installing a new line and tying it in while the old line stayed live — no service interruption.

Safety is baked into every task. Our FHLA boards (Field Hazard and Lifting Assessments), real-time audits and detailed task-specific JSAs ensure every crew member knows what’s at stake before shovels hit the dirt. It’s a proactive culture — not a box to check.
